Sandia Swing is a Western Swing band whose members have decades of experience playing with national artists of note. So put on your dancing shoes, enjoy some mountain scenery and check out this great sound. (Left to right)
Marty Tippens is a recent transplant from California where he performed as guitarist and drummer with artists like New Mexico legend George Tomsco (guitarist with the Fireballs who had the hit “Sugar Shack” in 1963) and classic rock great Spencer Davis. He has recorded for Bear Family records and El Toro Records.
Todd Farkas is a classically trained violinist who has been playing around New Mexico since the mid-70s. His bands have opened for Alison Krauss, Ralph Stanley, The David Grisman Quintet and more. He has also performed with symphony orchestras and was with Albuquerque’s popular western swing band, The Curio Cowboys.
Wayne Johnson: Wayne is the newest addition to the band. Originally from New York, he has been an in-demand drummer in the Albuquerque area for the last 30 years.
Marty Lepore (Dr. Slide): Lap Steel and Resophonic guitar maestro for over 40 years, Marty has been playing in bands since he was 12. He won the Western Washington Dobro Championship in 1995 and co-hosted the Resomania workshop at Wintergrass Bluegrass Festival for 20 years. He has met and picked with major Dobro players from all over the world.
Bill Honker: Bill has sung, played bass and guitar with numerous bluegrass bands, performing nation-wide with Billy Joe Foster, Special Edition and the Alan Munde Gazette who he was with for 12 years, singing, playing base and contributing original material. He still performs occasionally with banjo great Alan Munde.
