In partnership with Sandoval County, KUPR upgraded its EAS (Emergency Alert System) equipment and software in 2025. The station now received and broadcasts alerts generated by a number of sources including IPAWS. ​The Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS) is FEMA’s national platform that allows authorized federal, state, local, and tribal authorities to send authenticated, geographically targeted emergency alerts to the public. It unifies multiple dissemination channels to broadcast life-saving information simultaneously

Coming in 2026 is a messaging system that will allow KUPR to generate hyper-local alerts which may not yet be part of the EAS broadcast system. We are one of 12 stations across the nation selected to participate in the beta version of the software and we will be rolling it out slowly. The link between generating an alert (which could come from SCAN) to going on the air will require obtaining a MACbook, even an older model.
