In partnership with Sandoval County, KUPR upgraded its EAS (Emergency Alert System) equipment and software in 2025. The station now receives and broadcasts alerts generated by a number of sources including IPAWS. ​The Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS) is FEMA’s national platform that allows authorized federal, state, local, and tribal authorities to send authenticated, geographically targeted emergency alerts to the public. It unifies multiple dissemination channels to broadcast life-saving information simultaneously. EAS alerts are often non-specific in nature and don't provide enough information to be useful. An example is a recent evacuation notice for Santa Fe County. Why was this received in Placitas and where in Santa Fe County? Our goal is to provide timely and specific enough information to be helpful. Get your information from trusted sources AND multiple sources in an emergency. See below.

Sandoval County has updated its emergency notification system, now called SCAN. Sign up to receive alerts via text, email or phone calls here. Enrollment is easy and open to everyone.

You can subscribe to a messaging system here administered by KUPR for hyper-local alerts and other information which may not be part of the EAS broadcast system or SCAN. (We are one of 12 stations across the nation selected to participate in the beta version of the software and are rolling it out slowly as we establish our own sources of trusted information. The link between generating a digital alert (which could come from SCAN) and going on the air will require obtaining a MACbook, even an older model. ​InciWeb is an interagency all-risk incident information management system. The system was developed with two primary missions:

1. Provide the public a single source of incident related information
2. Provide a standardized reporting tool for the Public Affairs community

A number of supporting systems automate the delivery of incident information to remote sources. This ensures that the information regarding active incidents is consistent and the delivery is timely.
